If you are looking to follow an honest look at runDisney Princess Half Marathon training, you’ve come to the right place as we embark on our own fitness journey. As DVC members and Sorcerer Passholders, we practically treat the Walt Disney World parks like our second home. But today, we’re announcing a brand-new, slightly terrifying, and incredibly exciting chapter: we are officially registered for our first-ever runDisney event!

In February 2027, my spouse and I will be lining up before dawn for the Princess Half Marathon.

To say this is a massive leap for us is an understatement. Neither of us has ever run more than a 10K in our entire lives. Attempting 13.1 miles is a true life goal, and the timing couldn’t be more perfect—the race weekend falls within days of a major milestone birthday for me (and let’s just say, it’s not one of the young ones this time around!).

Instead of an “ultimate guide,” I’m going to be posting periodically right here on the blog to share the raw, unfiltered diary of this massive lifestyle shift.

The Chaos of Registration Day: Why We Need runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training

RunDisney Princess Half Marathon Race Registration

For anyone who hasn’t tried to secure a spot in a Disney race, let’s talk about the absolute gauntlet that is registration day. These events are massively popular, routinely selling out the most coveted distances within 60 to 90 minutes.

To hedge their bets, some runners look to Club runDisney—a year-long paid membership program. Its higher tiers (Gold and Platinum) offer a coveted perk: an exclusive early registration window to guarantee a race bib before the general public even gets a crack at it. Because we were navigating the general public pool, we knew we had to be strategic.

This year’s sign-up was a rollercoaster. The original general registration day was plagued by massive technical glitches, forcing Disney to abruptly call off the opening and delay it by an entire week. When the rescheduled day finally arrived, it was an all-hands-on-deck tech operation. We had our laptop, iPad, and multiple phones open to the digital queue, staring at the little walking stick figure and praying the servers would hold. Thankfully, the stars aligned and we locked in our bibs!

From Park Walker to Jogger: Our runDisney Princess Half Marathon Training Plan

If you look at my daily stats, you might think a half marathon isn’t that big of a stretch. Over the past year, I’ve been a well-oiled theme park walking machine, well capable of logging massive 15,000 to 25,000 step days in the parks, averaging just over 7+ miles a day overall.

But walking laps around World Showcase is one thing; transitioning those steady walking miles into consistent jogging intervals as we get older is a whole different beast.

According to our runDisney portal dashboard, we have exactly 260 days—roughly 39 weeks—until race day on February 28th, 2027. The clock is officially ticking. We have a mountain of work ahead of us to get in proper racing shape, drop some weight, and build up our endurance.

Part of our preparation is also sourcing the right gear. I’ve been a loyal Brooks runner for a while, and if you haven’t seen their recent official partnerships with runDisney, they are incredible. They do limited-edition character shoe drops incorporating awesome Disney IP right into the design (we’ve seen everything from Mickey and Stitch to Rapunzel and Belle). My spouse and I are already saving up to treat ourselves to a special pair of Brooks running shoes specifically for our February 2027 race weekend!

Outrunning the Balloon Ladies

For anyone unfamiliar with runDisney lore, there is a very real, very famous ticking clock at the back of the pack: The Balloon Ladies.

These are the wonderful but formidable volunteers who carry distinct balloons and start at the very end of the final corral. They maintain a strict 16-minute-per-mile pace. If they pass you, you risk being “swept”—which means your race day ends early with a ride in a bus straight to the finish line, sans medal.

Our primary mission over the next 39 weeks? Ensure we average comfortably under that 16-minute pace so we can cross the finish line on our own two feet, earning that Princess Half Marathon medal fair and square.
